CJ Architects Brings Talent and Roots to the Seacoast

PORTSMOUTH, NH, June 26, 2017 –

CJ Architects, a leading regional architectural design and management firm responsible for the design of the seacoast’s future landmark buildings and communal spaces has launched an intern program aimed at bringing new young talent to the seacoast. Whitney Belton, a recent graduate of the renowned Rogers Williams University School of Architecture, Art and Historic Preservation and a seacoast resident looking to return to her roots, has joined the firm as a summer intern. She hopes to join the firm permanently after receiving her graduate degree in Architecture from Roger Williams in in 2018.

Ms. Belton, who grew up in Exeter, NH prior to her schooling in Rhode Island is anxious to return to the seacoast to make her mark on the future architectural integrity of the region. She was attracted to CJ Architects because of their ability to bring historic features into a modern era.

“I was attracted to CJ Architects because they are doing some pretty cool things, said Belton. “They are a leading firm in the area in which I love and grew up in and from day one they have offered me everything I would have hoped for – passion, commitment and commitment to the local communities they serve.”

Belton, who excelled academically in her field focused on architecture and historic preservation, sees CJ Architects as a perfect fit to utilize her talents. She describes her passion for art and sustaining community as leading her to her promising career in architecture.

“We’re honored to welcome someone of Whitney’s abilities. She shares our dedication to our craft and will be a terrific asset to us and seacoast communities,” said Carla Goodknight, founder of CJ Architects.

“In my first few weeks, it became apparent to me that CJ Architects excels in all the things that drew me to architecture, said Belton. “ The team is inspired to do a lot, especially giving back to the community. Carla and her associates are excellent role models for me because they’re passion and their drive to succeed are rooted in the community.”

Belton’s experience with CJ Architects brings her one step closer to fulfilling her goal of creating community space in the seacoast, such as Portsmouth’s North End, by allowing her to achieve her architectural license earning Architectural Experience Program credits.

“As a seacoast native and first realizing at Phillips Exeter Academy that my love for art could be put to functional use through architecture, I am excited about the opportunity to work a group of individuals at CJ Architects that are known as the best and that share my passions and desire for architecture that build communities,” said Belton.

In addition to her academic honors, Belton has been recognized for her community service to include volunteer work for the American Institute of Architectural Design in the Roger Williams University Freedom By Design Chapter were she managed projects for the Pell School Newport and Roger Williams University’s Arboreta and the Garden of Hope in Bristol, RI.
